I love to dance, especially with soulful middle eastern music. My passion began at an early age when I lived in Cairo between the ages of 12-17. There with the help of neighbors and local friends, I was introduced to Egyptian music and traditional dances. Every summer, there were big parties, which lasted until dawn where I got to learn these ancient dances and move to the mesmerizing music by the talented local musicians. I was fascinated by the beautiful costumes, intricate henna patterns, bright colors, exotic aromas and soulful movements. As I got older, I was able to participate in dance competitions (eventually, these competitions turned into my first modeling contracts.), design my own costumes, discover new beauty treatments and paint my own henna designs. It was especially empowering to see the bejeweled women exude a powerful energy and confidence which I will never forget. My father on the other hand, was worried but my mother, aunts and cousins kept encouraging me to keep practicing.
When my family moved from Egypt, I continued dancing and modeling but this Egyptian style continued to stay with me and I have always incorporated those experiences in my professional life. In the black and white Dance photos (see photo gallery) which were part of a Revlon contract, I am in the desert in Venezuela, where I am dressed like an Arab princess. Photographers still remember the Arab and Greek mysticism of many of my photographs.
